CLASSES︎

"My approach to teaching ceramics is founded on striking a harmonious balance between conceptual free thinking and technical proficiency. In each of my courses, I strive to provide students with a structured foundation while also empowering them with the freedom to explore, engage with, and truly understand the materials they work with. It's imperative that students have both the opportunity and encouragement to take risks, grapple with their ideas, and derive valuable lessons from the journey, as oftentimes, bold experimentation and occasional failures contribute more substantially to one's artistic growth than playing it safe.

Throughout my 8 years of teaching, I've found that establishing a personal rapport with my students is paramount. Recognizing that we all possess unique ways of learning, with distinct interactions between our hands and our intellect, I make an effort to understand each student's individual learning process. This personalized approach enables me to better cater to their needs and preferences, ultimately fostering a more enriching educational experience."

I am enthusiastic about imparting my passion to my students and guiding them through the diverse avenues available within the ceramics process.

In my classes, the primary focus is on wheel throwing, a technique that offers boundless possibilities for crafting both functional and sculptural pieces. The wheel enables you to explore an infinite array of forms. However, I also emphasize the beauty of hand-building, which provides a distinct creative approach. By incorporating both wheel throwing and hand-building techniques, students can delve into contrasting ideas and enrich their artistic process by blending these methods.

Moreover, I aim to instill in my students a profound awareness of the materials integral to the ceramics process. It's crucial to recognize how the organic beauty of these materials continually influences the creative journey. After all, when working with clay, water, air, and fire, one is essentially collaborating with the elements of nature.
